Prior Learning (Equivalency Credit)

The University of Northern Colorado accepts credit for qualifying scores on Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), The Cambridge Assessment International Education (AICE) examination, portfolio review, Joint Services Transcript (JST), Teacher Cadet program, and through Challenge/Proficiency Exams.

  • Teacher Cadet Program 

    Students who received a B or better in their Teacher Cadet coursework may request credit for fulfilling the Educational Foundations requirement in the Elementary, Secondary, and K-12 Professional Teacher Education Programs (PTEP). This awarded credit will, in effect, waive the required 3 credit hours of EDF 290  or EDF 370, depending on the PTEP program in which the student enrolls.

    Teacher Cadet Program credit is counted as non-residency transfer work.

    To request the EDF credit, please submit a legible copy of your Teacher Cadet Certificate of Completion (The Teacher Cadet Program Portfolio Review certificate) along with a high school transcript indicating the Teacher Cadet Program with grades of B or better to:

  • Monfort College of Business - High School of Business鈩

    Students who complete all six (6) required courses in the MBA High School of Business鈩 and received a B or better in their coursework may request credit for completing the MBA High School of Business鈩 program.  The courses required within the MBA High School of Business鈩 are: Principles of Business, Business Economics, Principles of Marketing, Principles of Finance, Principles of Management and Business Strategies.  This awarded credit will, in effect, grant the student 3 credit hours of BA 150 Foundations of Business Thought (Liberal Arts Core Area 3C).

    MCB High School of Business鈩 credit is counted as non-residency transfer work. Students are not required to be business majors to be eligible to apply for the credit.

    To request the credit, please submit a legible copy of your MBA High School of Business鈩 Certificate of Completion along with a high school transcript indicating the MBA High School of Business鈩 courses with grades of B or better to the Office of the Registrar.

  • Cambridge Assessment International Education (A-Level)  

    The Cambridge (AICE) examination is a United Kingdom qualification from the University of Cambridge International Examinations.

    The AICE program is an international, advanced secondary curriculum and assessment program equivalent to the British system of "A-levels" offered through the University of Cambridge International Examinations. Information about the program, including course syllabi, is available at  

    Scores of 鈥淎鈥 through 鈥淓鈥 are passing results and will be considered for credit. 鈥淯ngraded鈥 scores are not eligible for credit.  Credit will not be granted for both an A-level and an AS-level exam in the same subject area. The student must submit an official copy of the examination result.

    麻豆传媒 equivalencies are reviewed by the academic department corresponding to the test subject matter. Additional tests will be evaluated upon receipt of official examination results. 

    AICE credit is counted as non-residency transfer work.

  • Portfolio Review

    Any GT Pathways credit awarded by a Colorado HE institution based on a portfolio review shall be accepted in transfer and applied to GT Pathways requirements at the University of Northern Colorado, regardless of the sending institution鈥檚 portfolio review method.

    At 麻豆传媒, students should consult with the respective academic unit for specific guidance on the Portfolio review process and GT alignment.

    Portfolio credit is counted as non-residency transfer work.

  • Challenge and Proficiency Exams

    Per 搂23-1-125(4), Colorado Revised Statute, 鈥溾ach public institution of higher education shall grant full course credits to students for the core [GT Pathways] courses they successfully test out of, free of tuition for those courses.鈥 Each public institution shall define a process for students to test out of GT Pathways courses, 鈥溾ncluding specifying use of a national test or the criteria for approving institutionally devised tests.鈥 If the student transfers, receiving institutions shall apply that credit to the appropriate GT Pathways category, even if the test out exam used was not one used by the receiving institution (CLEP, for example).

    Students who judge their current academic ability in a specific course to be sufficiently high may take rigorous subject matter examinations to earn credit. Students interested in challenging a 麻豆传媒 course should contact the appropriate school or program to determine the availability of a challenge and/or proficiency examination.

    Academic units must submit the to the Office of the Registrar to assure the awarding of academic credit for a student. 

    Challenge and/or proficiency exam credit is counted as 麻豆传媒 residency work.
