Wellness

Your students' wellness includes more than just physical health.  Here at Â鶹´«Ã½, we take a holistic approach to wellness that considers multiple dimensions of individual wellness: emotional, intellectual, physical, social, environmental, financial, spiritual, and occupational.  Each dimension is important to a students' overall wellness and finding a balance among all dimensions is the key to thriving.

Holistic wellness is an active process that focuses on bringing balance into a student's life and helps them achieve a sense of well-being. Checking in with your student can be a helpful way to encourage them to take those active steps.  Here are some questions you could ask your student to start the conversation:

  • It's nice to not have school all day like you used to.  How are you enjoying your new college schedule?
  • It sounds like you're struggling in your _____ class.  Have you made an appointment with any of the tutors in the Division of Student Success?
  • What do you have planned for your first weekend at college?
  • How's it going balancing class time and hanging out with everyone you've met?
  • What kinds of things are you interested in outside of class?
  • Finals are coming up.  Which ones are you most nervous about?  Have you been able to take time for self-care to de-stress and relax before finals?

Knowing about and offering campus resources to your student can be a supportive way to help your student thrive at Â鶹´«Ã½, but remember, it is up to the student to take the active steps to access campus resources if they choose to do so. Below are some resources on campus that students can access to address the various dimensions of health and wellness.

Campus Resources

Our SI leaders are upper-level Â鶹´«Ã½ students who hold three 1-to-2 hour sessions each week to review course content, facilitate student-centered learning activities, and foster independent learning strategies. National research data show that SI students earn higher exam and course grades and withdraw less often than non-SI participants. Also, national data demonstrate higher re-enrollment and graduation rates for SI participants.
