Japanese at Â鶹´«Ã½

Program Overview

japan

The Japanese Program stresses acquisition of the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Classes are performance-oriented, geared toward oral and written proficiency in Japanese. Students develop critical thinking and independent learning skills as they acquire familiarity with Japanese language, literature, and culture.

Students can study elementary through advanced levels of Japanese at Â鶹´«Ã½ and can supplement their study at Â鶹´«Ã½ with one of several Â鶹´«Ã½ exchange and study-abroad opportunities. Currently, students can apply course work in Japanese to majors in Asian Studies, or International Affairs, or to minors in Asian Studies. For students who want to spend summer in Japan teaching English, there is an opportunity to work as USA summer camp counselors in Japan. Graduates can pursue internships abroad to continue improving language skills and gain experience in areas such as business, education, or government work.

Students completing advanced level work in Japanese can pursue graduate study in Japanese, Asian Studies, Japanese History, International Affairs, or other related fields in which proficiency in Japanese language and culture are desired. Students who combine their language study with other fields such as business, political science, international trade and relations, economics, or anthropology, can become involved in careers in international business, world affairs and government, translation, social work, or the arts. The Japan Exchange & Teaching (JET) is popular among graduates. This is a great opportunity to work in Japan as an Assistant English Teacher.
