Guidance Related to Visa Status and Revocations
April 17, 2025
Dear Â鶹´«Ã½ Community,
I am writing today to share information and resources considering the increasing number of visa cancellations by the U.S. government.
We are aware that these federal actions are causing stress and confusion for international students and scholars across the country as well as to members of our own university community. While Â鶹´«Ã½ cannot provide legal advice, we want you to be aware of the steps we are taking and some of the resources available.
Individuals who receive notice from the federal government or Â鶹´«Ã½'s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS):
ISSS checks the government’s SEVIS immigration system regularly for updates to student visa records. If or when changes are made in the system, ISSS will contact impacted students directly through their BearMail account.
- Students who receive a direct notification from any U.S. government agency that their visa has been canceled, or their immigration status has changed should immediately contact Kara LaSota in the Office of Global Engagement.
- Faculty and staff receiving immigration-related notifications by a U.S. government agency should immediately contact Sarah Chase in Human Resources and their supervisor.
Familiarize Yourself with Responses to FAQs:
The created a Frequently Asked Questions page that addresses key information for international students and stakeholders.
Additional Resources:
In an effort to keep our university community informed about this situation, additional information, resources, guidance and recommendations are available here. Â鶹´«Ã½ continues to monitor federal actions and provide current information on our federal updates webpage.
Sincerely,
Tamra English
Â鶹´«Ã½ General Counsel
