Extracurricular Mathematics

Looking for some math to do? We offer a myriad of opportunities for you to enjoy mathematics outside of the classroom.

For Current Students

Math Club
This student organization meets weekly during the school year. Activities include solving math problems, listening to math talks, and watching math movies. Each fall the club co-organizes (with TEAM) the Gathering for Gardner Celebration of Mind party. Everyone is welcome.

Putnam Competition
This challenging math competition is open to all undergraduate students. It consists of a 6 hour math test the first Saturday of December each year. The competition is free to enter and we hold study sessions during the fall semester. For more information, contact Oscar Levin.

Undergraduate Research
Looking for even more math? Consider a undergraduate research project. Recent projects completed by students include Using Python to Mathematically Transform Simple Music and Square-Free Sequences on Small Symbol Sets. If you are interested in doing some research, talk to your favorite professor and they can point you in the right direction.

Northern Colorado Math Circles
A Math Circle provides an opportunity for teachers or students to engage in mathematical problem solving and deepen their understanding of mathematics. Problem-solving evenings are offered monthly leading up to a week-long summer workshop.
