Over 130 community partnerships exist between the University of Northern Colorado and community, providing students with a host of opportunities for engaged learning outside of the classroom.
That figure is according to a survey conducted by the Office of Engagement, in collaboration with Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Social Reach Lab, and with support from a collective impact grant from the University of Denver.
Eighty percent of students involved with these community-based, learning opportunities, from internships to volunteer positions, say that these experiences help build skills that prepare them for their profession. Community partners include government, healthcare, schools and nonprofit community organizations. The majority of these partnerships engage students in serving culturally diverse and underrepresented populations in communities. Partner organizations also acknowledge that Â鶹´«Ã½ students bring knowledge and skills that enhance their enterprises.
Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Office of Engagement is now working on building a partnership portal. The result will be the creation of a website that the office will pilot this spring that will allow organizations to create profiles and post opportunities for students. Students will also be able to post their profiles with their individual interests to match up with opportunities. In addition, through the platform, students will be able to create a co-curricular transcript that highlights their experiences and can be used to supplement résumés.
