Instructions
Apply to Research Excellence Awards by submitting your abstract for Research Day through the URSA registration portal. All abstracts/registrations must be completed by the deadline announced at the beginning of Spring semester in order to be considered for Research Excellence Awards. 3-5 finalists per category will be selected and will be notified at least 2 weeks prior to Research Day.
- Publication in : All Undergraduate REA finalists will have their abstract printed in Â鶹´«Ã½'s Undergraduate
Research Journal, Ursidae. By clicking the box to apply for REA, you are giving permission
to have your abstract published by Â鶹´«Ã½. . You may also submit your entire manuscript/research
article for publication in the full issue. We have a rolling deadline for issues
of Ursidae. Please submit at the end of the semester if your manuscript is complete.

Awards Categories
Awards will be presented to the top scoring posters and individual presenters within each of the categories. Graduate and Undergraduate will both be broken into three separate categories (Humanities and Arts, Natural and Health Sciences, and Social Sciences, Education, and Business). Each of these divisions will have separate awards: $100 to each winner in each category.
- Developing Researcher Poster Presentations
- Restricted to Freshmen and Sophomore level presenters.
- Freshmen and Sophomores who submit poster presentations and select the Developing Scholar box will be considered , with review of the abstracts. There will be 3-5 finalists selected.
- Poster Presentations (Undergraduates and Graduate students compete in separate divisions)
- Humanities, Arts & Creative Endeavors
- 3-5 Finalists
- Natural and Health Sciences (NOTE: Natural & Health science presentations that are
using social science methodology and are focused on more of a social science topic,
such as education-related, should select the Social Science/Education category)
- 3-5 Finalists
- Social Sciences, Education, Business
- 3-5 Finalists
- Humanities, Arts & Creative Endeavors
- Oral Presentations (Undergraduates and Graduate students compete in separate divisions)

ORAL PRESENTERS:
- The overall time allowed for your oral presentation is 15 minutes (10 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions and answers). You are required to attend the full session to watch all other presenters (as a courtesy).
- If you had originally scheduled for an oral presentation that was longer than 15 minutes, you now will only have the 15 minute time slot, so please be prepared. If you would like to also present for your original time in another room (not for the awards), we can schedule you for a second presentation.

POSTER PRESENTERS:
- The overall time allowed for your oral presentation is 10 minutes (approximately 5 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions and answers). You are required to attend the full one hour poster session, and to stay with your poster. If you have a group, at least one member of the group must stay with the poster at all times during the session.
- The judges may either be together or may come to your poster separately, at the judge's panel discretion.
- If you are presenting in the Wednesday School of Biological Sciences poster session, you will need to present a second time on Thursday during the multi-College poster session assigned to your REA category.

Research Excellence Awards Ceremony - Required Attendance
The Research Excellence Awards Ceremony will be tentatively held from 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. in the Panorama Room, on the third level of the University Center.
The winner in each category will receive a $100 gift card, and all finalists will be recognized.
Application information
The Research Excellence Awards program was established to encourage and reward those presentations that exemplify the highest levels of excellence in research. Only a limited number of presentations will be accepted into the awards program, and a team of faculty will evaluate each one on Research Day.
In order to enter the Research Excellence Awards competition, a student must select the "Research Excellence Awards" consideration box on their Research Day application. Then, three to five finalists in each category will be selected, and will be notified directly of their selection at least two weeks prior to Research Day.
Students interested in being considered for Research Excellence Awards should check the box for Research Excellence Awards consideration on the application form. Finalists will be contacted at least two weeks prior to Research Day if accepted into the Research Excellence Awards Program.
- Developing Scholars Poster Presentation Awards: Freshmen and Sophomores who check the Developing Scholars Awards box. Separate poster awards judging will be conducted to select the winners.
- Student Oral Presentations: Only single sessions (15 minutes) will be permitted into Research Excellence Awards. If a student originally enters as a multiple-session presentation, they will be asked to switch their presentation to a 15-minute presentation. If your oral presentation is selected for the Research Excellence Awards, then your presentation will be scheduled for the specific time assigned to that category .
- Student Poster Presenters: Finalists in the poster category may also be asked to reschedule into a different poster session if necessary.
- Group projects: Teams are allowed, and the award amount will be split among all students listed on the research/project team.
