Â鶹´«Ã½ Students Recognized Nationally for Voting in 2018

Student participation in elections continues to increase at the University of Northern
Colorado, with 53% of Â鶹´«Ã½ students voting in the 2018 midterm election.
Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s turnout, above the national average, resulted in recognition from the , a national, nonpartisan initiative that supports efforts to increase turnout.
In 2018, over 6,300 Â鶹´«Ã½ students voted — an increase of over 16-percentage points from 2014 when 2,313 Â鶹´«Ã½ students voted.
According to the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement, an initiative of Tufts University’s Institute for Democracy & Higher Education, voter turnout at the more than 1,000 institutions participating in the study increased by 21 points from 19% in the 2014 midterm election to 40% in the 2018 midterm election.
Â鶹´«Ã½ Students and the 2018 Election:
- Over 78% of students registered to vote in 2018, an increase of six-and-a-half percentage points compared to 2014.
- Over 82% of students mailed in their ballots, which was the most popular method followed by voting in person (12.7%).
- Graduate students had a voting rate of almost 59%
- Undergraduate students in 2018 had a voting rate of 48%
- Juniors and seniors: 52%
- Sophomores: 49%
- Freshmen: 42%
- Among the fields of study with the highest voting rate were history (63.6%) and education (59.4%).
