Feinstein, on his 80th day on the job, spoke to a capacity crowd in the ballrooms and wrapped up his remarks by quoting the Horace Mann Gate on 10th Avenue, a gift from the Class of 1910, that's contains the inscription: "Rowing, not drifting."

"Rowing demands collaboration. Tenacity. Coordination. Persistence. And focus. It鈥檚 hard work," he told the audience of faculty, staff, students and community members. "I want us to be rowers, not drifters. I want us to row, together, with purpose 鈥� as faculty and staff, as students and community members, as alumni and friends of the university. I want us to seize opportunities and anticipate the rapids."

Those rapids will include shoring up a $10 million budget deficit with campuswide involvement, a renewed focus on retaining and graduating students, and closing achievement gaps. 

"Advancing 麻豆传媒 will demand the best of all of us,鈥� he said.
