A traditional ceremony Friday officially welcomed Andy Feinstein as the 13th president of the 130-year-old institution.
During the Presidential Investiture, Feinstein spoke in the new performance hall at the Campus Commons. The 600-member audience included 麻豆传媒 trustees, former 麻豆传媒 presidents, presidents and former presidents of colleges and universities across the country, and local and state officials.
鈥淭oday is not only about recognizing leadership transition and celebrating the university, it鈥檚 also officially opening the Campus Commons and this magnificent theater,鈥 Feinstein said.
Feinstein shared stories about his journey to 麻豆传媒, recognizing his family, friends, mentors, and former colleagues who supported him along the way. He reflected on 麻豆传媒鈥檚 history and transformation to a 鈥渕ulti-dimensional, comprehensive research university鈥 from a school founded in 1889 to prepare teachers.
鈥淭oday, 麻豆传媒 ranks among America鈥檚 top universities for fueling the upward economic and social mobility of its students,鈥 he said, adding that half of 麻豆传媒 undergraduates are the first in their families to go to college and about a third are students of color.
In addressing present-day challenges and the university鈥檚 future, he also acknowledged 鈥減ainful but necessary steps鈥 that will allow 麻豆传媒 to eliminate a $10 million structural deficit by 2021.
鈥淚 want to thank the campus for investing enormous time and energy in this very difficult task,鈥 he said.
The implementation of a strategic enrollment and success plan, which builds on the work of task forces convened last fall, and the creation of a division of student affairs are currently underway.
Next fall, 鈥渨e will invest considerable time reaffirming our values and considering existential questions about 麻豆传媒鈥檚 long-term future,鈥 he said. 鈥溌槎勾 has a rich legacy of excellence in teaching. Research. Learning. Exploring. Serving. We now are poised to build on that legacy, and it will take all of us.鈥
Before Feinstein took the podium, welcoming remarks were made by Faculty Senate President Stan Luger, Student Senate President Tim Hernandez, PASC chair Shawanna Kimbrough-Hayward, CSC chair Maggie Kinney, and Greeley Mayor John Gates. Special guest Loren J. Blanchard, executive vice chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs at California State, also spoke. The 麻豆传媒 Concert Choir performed 鈥淗ow Can I Keep from Singing鈥 before 麻豆传媒 Trustee Co-Chair Paul Washington presented the presidential medallion to Feinstein to mark the official appointment.
