Heeseung Lee, Ph.D., an assistant professor of Music History and Theory from the Â鶹´«Ã½ School of Music gave a pre-concert talk at the 2024 Bravo Vail Music Festival during the opening weekend, featuring the Orquesta Sinfónica de MinerÃa from Mexico. In her talk, titled "Timbre, Gesture, and Nuance: Savoring the Sonic Flavor of French and Spanish Classical Music," she shared a story about Â鶹´«Ã½'s status as a Hispanic Serving Institution and highlighted the beauty of French and Spanish music, which is part of the musical heritage of our Hispanic and Latine-identifying students at Â鶹´«Ã½.
Under the direction of Carlos Miguel Prieto, the concert held on June 22 included performances of Maurice Ravel's "Le Tombeau de Couperin," JoaquÃn Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez" and Manuel de Falla's "El Amor Brujo." The following day, the Sinfónica de MinerÃa also featured compositions by Gabriela Ortiz, Alberto Ginastera, Paquito D'Rivera, Arturo Márquez and Pacho Flores, honoring the growing Latino communities in Colorado.
