It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that former Â鶹´«Ã½ president Richard Bond passed away on Oct. 26.
Current President Andy Feinstein noted, “Dick was a great leader, and the legacy he left on our university is eternal. He cared deeply about Â鶹´«Ã½ and worked tirelessly on behalf of our students, faculty, and staff. While this news is sad, I hope you will join me in celebrating Dick’s life and many contributions to the university and broader community.â€
Richard Bond
Bond came to Â鶹´«Ã½ from Illinois State University in 1971 and served as president until 1981. As the institution's 9th president, he was committed to the idea of making education as accessible as possible and believed in expanding the university’s role beyond the confines of the campus. During his tenure, Bond worked to position Â鶹´«Ã½ as an innovative, student-oriented and accessible institution. Even after his retirement, he remained involved in both the Greeley and Â鶹´«Ã½ communities, including actively participating in Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Emeritus Faculty Council.
Bond’s legacy and contributions to the university were formally recognized in 2005 with the naming of Bond Hall. The historic residence hall, one of four that bears the name of former presidents, sits along Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s President’s Row on Central Campus.
