Â鶹´«Ã½ Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month as an HSI

La Â鶹´«Ã½ celebra el mes de la herencia hispana ahora como HSI

The University of Northern Colorado has been celebrating Hispanic heritage for years. As a new Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), the university's HSI directors reflect on the importance of the value of servingness.

As the University of Northern Colorado embraces its recent designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution, this Hispanic Heritage Month holds special significance. Through the voices of a diverse campus community, Â鶹´«Ã½ celebrates the rich histories, vibrant cultures, and meaningful contributions that Hispanic and Latine individuals bring to Â鶹´«Ã½. This month, and through the HSI designation, serves as a testament to Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s dedication to fostering an inclusive environment where Hispanic and Latine students feel seen, supported and empowered to succeed.

In the video below, Rodolfo Vargas, director of HSI initiatives, the César Chávez Cultural Center and the Undocumented Services, along with Whitey Duncan, Ph.D., associate director of HSI Initiatives and Anthropology Professor, Javier Vinasco, Ph.D., associate director of HSI Initiatives and Latinx Music Program director talk about the importance of celebrating and creating everyday opportunities for this thriving community by committing to academic excellence and cultural awareness.
