Dr. Travis Boyce is the Program Coordinator and Associate Professor of Africana Studies.
In addition to his instructional and scholarly activities, Dr. Boyce serves as the Faculty Fellow for the Office of Undergraduate Research, a Faculty-in-Residence for Housing and Residential Education, and the faculty advisor to the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society (麻豆传媒 鈥 Gold Key Chapter).
Although his expertise is in African American university presidents during the mid 20th century, Dr, Boyce also has research interests in the U.S. during Reconstruction, contemporary U.S. History, African diasporic studies, as well as film, popular culture and sports studies.
Dr. Boyce is the co-author of Historicizing Fear, an edited book in press with the University Press of Colorado, with a tentative publication date of late 2019. Dr. Boyce鈥檚 most recent projects examine the intersection of race, fashion, and social media in the sporting world. He is the co-author of a 鈥淩eproducing Lynching and Spectacle: The Burning and Desecration of Colin Kaepernick鈥檚 Jersey.鈥 It will appear in Eileen Angelini鈥檚 Racism and Discrimination in the Sporting World. He is working on his second book project, #MoreThanAnAthlete: Black Athletes鈥 Impact on Fashion in the Age of Black Lives Matter. This book is contracted with Universitas Press. Furthermore, Dr. Boyce is co-editing a special issue (Fashion, Style, Aesthetics, and Black Lives Matter) in the Fashion, Style, & Popular Culture journal; a peer reviewed journal specifically dedicated to the area of fashion scholarship and its interfacings with popular culture.
