Grant Funding

The Graduate Student Association (GSA) oversees the distribution of research and conference grant funding through a competitive application process. In past years, GSA reviewed grants in four cycles during the fiscal year, the process has changed. To better serve the needs of students and to improve timely communication and the speed of the reimbursement process, GSA will review grants on a rolling basis beginning July 1 and ending April 30.

GSA grants are supplemental to aid in graduate student academic and professional development. Due to the limited nature of grant funding, the application process is highly competitive and designed to expose graduate students to the scrutiny and specificity of grants in the public and private sectors. The GSA has caps on the amount any one student can receive for a grant application. For example, those attending an academic or professional conference, but not presenting research, cannot receive more than $500. Those presenting at a conference will not receive more than $1,000. Students are limited to no more than $2,000 in total funding per year. To learn more about GSA grant funding, please read the GSA Grant Handbook.

Note: Student-related travel expenses can be reimbursed only if allowed by the institution鈥檚 travel policies. Students must complete the Travel Authorization form for any domestic or international travel.

鈥淒ouble-dipping鈥 is strictly prohibited. You may not receive multiple reimbursements for the same dollar spent. For example, if you spent $600 on equipment and already received a $600 reimbursement from the GSA, you may not receive any additional money for that same purchase. However, if you spent $1,000 on equipment and received a $600 reimbursement from the GSA, you may still receive an additional $400 in supplemental funding. Students in violation of this policy may be banned from the GSA grant process. If you have any questions or need additional assistance, email GSA@unco.edu
