Online Learning Help for Students

Do my accommodations apply to online courses?

  • YES! You are entitled to all of the same accommodations you have in face-to-face courses, as applicable to the online format.

Appointments:

  • Students may schedule in-person, phone, or video call meetings with a staff member. These can be scheduled by calling our office. When calling, please indicate if you prefer the appointment to be conducted via video or phone call. 
    • In person appointments will take place in the DRC Office, located in the lower level of Michener Library (L80).
    • For phone appointments, staff members will call students at the number on file.
    • For virtual appointments, staff will be using Microsoft Teams and will send you a meeting invite via Teams with a phone number or video link to join during your meeting time.

Records Release Requests:

  • If you are a previous or current student on our program and need a copy of your documentation or records, please fill out the Request for Records Release Form
  • When filling out the form, please be sure to indicate the method of delivery.
  • Please include a copy of a photo-ID along with the Records Release Form when submitting.

Taking Tests:

  • Regardless of course format (online, face-to-face, hybrid), students should still schedule their exams through AIM. If you would like to use an accommodation for an online exam, you can schedule it in the student portal by selecting 鈥淥nline Exam- Not Proctored at DRC鈥. This alerts the professor that you are requesting accommodations for this exam, specifically which accommodations you are requesting.
  • If you find barriers to completing online assessments, please contact DRC and your faculty member so that we can work together to determine potential, appropriate alternative assessments. Some of these barriers may include:
    • Exams requiring paper
    • Braille or alternate format printed exams
    • Scribe/reader for exams
    • Identifying assistive technology to use on personal computer
    • Other exam accommodations which may limit access online

Tips for Online Learning

  • Contact your instructor and the DRC for assistance and resources .
  • Take frequent breaks from the computer to reduce eye strain and fatigue. shows you how to reduce blue light on your PC or Mac.
  • If you find the amount of text on the screen overwhelming, use this to break up the text to make it easier to read..
  • If you need a text-to-speech program to read aloud any exams, text, or PowerPoints in class, try the free and customize the voices, upload documents, and select your speed.
