As the school year kicks off, faculty and staff are gearing up to support our University of Northern Colorado (Â鶹´«Ã½) students. Faculty and staff support students every day through their roles at Â鶹´«Ã½, but some choose to go above and beyond by donating their time, expertise and funding. A popular method of giving is through payroll deductions, which make it easy to support the various areas in need across campus. At Â鶹´«Ã½, there are seemingly endless causes to support depending on a donor’s passions and aspirations. In recognition of National Workforce Development month, we have taken a deep dive into just a few of the donor-funded causes that Â鶹´«Ã½ faculty and staff support. All are welcome to support these vital scholarships and services (and many alumni employers offer matches for employee donations!).

April is National Volunteer Month and Â鶹´«Ã½ is is grateful to the many volunteers who supported student success this academic year.

The Â鶹´«Ã½ Scholarship application provides a centralized avenue for students to raise their hands and receive gifts from Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s generous donors. In turn, student thank-you notes demonstrate the power of donors in building up scholarships and building up future college graduates.

As Â鶹´«Ã½ continues to respond to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Â鶹´«Ã½ donors form the generous and sometimes unseen community committed to helping students remain enrolled and on track to complete their education.

For Â鶹´«Ã½ sophomore Armando Arteaga and a generous Â鶹´«Ã½ grad, theatre brings humanity to life.

Prior to June’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling on DACA, Â鶹´«Ã½ faculty kickstarted a crowdfunding campaign, which highlights the ways a small gift can make a big difference in students’ lives.

The Reisher Family Scholarship and McNair Scholars program provide the support and preparation for Â鶹´«Ã½ recent graduate and first-generation college student Brandon Selz ’20 to pursue graduate education and a career that makes a difference.

As a first-generation student, Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s support systems meant a lot to Jenaya McGowan Zarrad ’08. The Greeley native came to Â鶹´«Ã½ from Aims Community College and found a degree and a community that made a difference in her education.

Receiving a scholarship can mean the difference between completing or quitting the pursuit of an education. In 2019, 25 students were surprised to learn that they would receive an $8000 scholarship toward the continuation their Â鶹´«Ã½ education, a gift inspired by an act of generosity that occurred 60 prior.
